How to make this year an ‘Old Fashioned’ Christmas

The one, the only, the Old Fashioned cocktail.  This drink is a classic. It’s so amazing that it even has a glass named after it.  As hibernation season begins, I find myself turning to the old cocktail classics and this is one of my favorites.  It reminds me of holiday seasons sitting by the fireplace after putting up decorations on the freshly chopped down spruce tree.  This cocktail is what inspired our recent seasonal limited edition small batch candle, ‘Old Fashioned’ Christmas, and will be on heavy rotation as the weather cools down.

It should only really be made with whiskey, in our opinion, so here is the best recipe to include in your Old Fashioned glass once your candle burns down.

Classic Old Fashioned

Adapted from The Spruce Eats

Ingredients:

1 sugar cube

2-3 dashes of Angostura Bitters

2 ounces bourbon or rye whiskey

Orange peel for garnish (optional)

Maraschino cherry (get these - they are to die for or make your own) for garnish (optional)

Directions:

Place sugar cube in the bottom of an old-fashioned glass, saturate it with bitters, and muddle.  Fill the glass with ice (or one larger cube) and whiskey. Stir well. Garnish with the orange peel and cherry if you’d like.  Enjoy!

And if you’re feeling extra fancy, you can make a holiday twist on this classic!
